The Journey Behind Toothology
Dr. Shaffer’s path to founding Toothology began with years of serving Williamsburg families—years filled with laughter from children in the waiting room, heartfelt conversations with longtime patients, and late evenings devoted to those who needed emergency dental care.
Over time, he noticed a troubling pattern. Too many people in Brooklyn were struggling to access the dental treatment they needed. Whether it was the challenge of finding a dentist who could treat every member of the family—from toddlers to grandparents—the long wait times for specialists, or concerns about cost, the barriers were real. And they were growing.
Dr. Shaffer believed his patients deserved better.
Education & Training
Dr. Shaffer earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology from the University at Buffalo, graduating with high honors. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, where his academic focus centered on comprehensive patient care.
Following dental school, Dr. Shaffer completed a rigorous General Practice Residency at Stony Brook, gaining advanced experience in restorative dentistry, dental implants, and the management of medically complex patients. Understanding that dental anxiety prevents many people from seeking care, he pursued additional training in sedation dentistry—ensuring that even the most anxious patients could receive treatment safely and comfortably.
His expertise extends to microscopically enhanced dentistry, sedation techniques, and complex case coordination, enabling him to deliver precise, thoughtful care to every patient he serves.
